Launch Day is Here!

The long awaited book launch date is here! But nothing ever goes without a hitch! We had some cover issues and the book cover had to be uploaded to the printer again. As fast as we can do file uploads who knew it would take so much time. The long and short of it is, even though launch day is here, shipping has been delayed a week. I’m guessing that this is the reason.

Lessons learned: Stay on top of your process!!!!!!! I checked with my publisher a the end of December to update the cover when my proof copy was not exactly as I expected. Even though I got an affirmative answer that the format change I requested would be made, first order of books that I received to sell on my website had the wrong cover format. 🙁 Then I went on vacation for a week, expecting that it would all be taken care of. I placed a second order of books (because I was already sold out!). I had to wait for the cover to be uploaded before my second order could be processes and shipped. I should have stayed on top of it. The second order had some glitches but I am hopeful that they have been resolved.

All that to say! Its is now official. My book is ready for sale on all platforms and live as of March 5! If you haven’t gotten your copy, make sure you get one in Kindle or Paperback versions.

Pre-Order Your Copy Now!

Those of you who have known me since High School know that I have always loved writing stories. As I got older those stories have turned into books! Yes I said books plural. I have written many but never successfully published any. The one I did try to self-publish kind of flopped because I did not know very well what I was doing. This time I have the whole weight of Atmosphere Press behind me in launching a book the right way.

My book, C.A.R.L. CIA Agent in Real Life is set to be released on March 5, 2024! The Book is on Amazon and Barnes and Noble right now and can be pre-ordered! It will ship to you on release day! I plan to get a few more out in the coming months. I would appreciate your support and please leave reviews on the contact page of my website: wronaldrolle.com. Please repost so that I can reach as wide of an audience as possible!

Marketing Strategy

I had a strategy call with Cam today at Atmosphere Press. I have to say I have been impressed with everyone that I have dealt with on the Atmosphere Press team. As you go through the process you get handed off to the next person who specializes in the phase that you are in. It happens in such a way that you don’t feel like you’re getting passed around, you feel like you are getting to know more of the family.

Our talk went well and lasted less than a half hour; but we accomplished a lot! We seemed to already be on the same page with a lot of things and I had my questions written out, but most of them were answered before I got to ask them–that’s always nice. We discussed: Book pricing for print and electronic copy, distribution networks, websites (I obviously already have one), ordering copies of my book, promotions, pre-order campaigns, networking and more! You’ll see pre-order information showing up soon! The Official release date is March 5! Help me make this book fly off of the virtual shelves!

Proof Copy Approved

Along with having to do real life stuff and work the job that pays the bills, I finally finished reading through the proof copy. No errors. No issues. Holding my own book in my hands took much longer to read it than it does reading it on screen. It was like the process you go through when you read a real book! Oh! Wait! It is a real book! I have to remember that now. Exciting!

I was a bit bothered that when the book came the format of the cover was flat matte. I was expecting a glossy cover. I mentioned this to the Cam, who is the representative from the publishing company that is helping with this final leg of the journey. Easy fix. Flat matte is just the default option. I was able to have the cover changed to glossy at no additional cost!

As soon as everyone is back from holiday leave, we’ll have a call and talk specifics on pricing and publication paths. We will also set a release date! Look out world, my first book is about to hit the shelves!

Proof Copy Received

The Proof Copy has been received. It was supposed to take 2-3 weeks. I got it delivered to my front door less than a week after it was requested. Of all days to decide to pack it in an envelope instead of a box, Amazon was a bit light on the packaging and it rained. My book was a little damp on one of the fringes, but a couple of hours next to the heater vent took care of that problem.

My new problem is that this is a very busy time for me with my real job. It will take some time before I even get an opportunity to read through the proof copy. But it sure does feel great to hold a physical copy of my book in my hands. THIS IS REAL now.

I have already gotten a communication from the Publicity team to help me in the continuing process. I will schedule a call with them as soon as I have time to read through and we make sure no changes need to be made. After I approve this copy revision will not be cheap.

Final Cover Design Approved!

I just looked at the final cover design. Can you say AWESOME! According to the timeline it is supposed to take a while before we get to the next step but a lot things have been done in tandem, in anticipation of the next steps. My “proof copy” is being requested and will be mailed to me as soon as the printer reconciles the files. I’ll have a printed copy in my hand to review! Yayyyyyyyyy!

The sad part about the whole transaction is that now I get handed off to antoher team. I have had had a great time working with my Managing Editor and the Graphics Artist. Now their parts of the job are done and its on to to the folks that will assist me with the leg of this venture–marketing and distribution!

Interior Design Done–We’re cooking with fat now!

After I got the last changes back I quickly verified that the change was correctly made. But, I have seen the publishing journey of others and knew that it would be beneficial to at least take some time and go though the pages. A complete re-read would not be necessary and that would be an even further delay.

After taking a few days to do the review and make sure all formatting was correct and the chapter numbers and pages all seemed correct, I sent my approval for the final manuscript. WOW! That seemed like a very weighty decision. From this point forward changes, if they need to be made will not be easy and likely not be cheap, so all of the extra precautions before approving are well worth it. The full cover spread has been requested and I am waiting for that to come back so that I can review it. Essentially it is the cover that I have already approved combined with the book blurb on the back and the information on the spine of the book formatted and printed. Once that is approved it is onward and upward!

Hello Fans! Back From Spain!

Greetings folks! Did you miss me? I had the greatest time in Denia Spain. It a quaint little east cost community. Very peaceful. It was a great place to “recharge my batteries.” While I was there, I gave the manuscript the once over again. I’m sorry to report that I did have one minor correction. I am hoping that since we are just touching one page, with just one correction, that the turnaround won’t take too long. We’re very close!

Now THAT was a fast turnaround!

Talk about your fast turn arounds! Well it was just one change on one page, so I was hoping that it did not take that long. But, I also have to remember that I am not the only client! However, now we are running into the holidays. I hoped to be finished long before not but the process gets very involved. Through it all I have nothing bad to report with the way things have been handled by my Publishing company, Atmosphere Press. I’ll have to do a post just on the company at some point. Kudos to Atmosphere!

And the Wait is Over!!!

Just after I posted that the wit was killing me, I got a message the next day from my publisher. The updates are ready! Problem! Now I’m at the airport and on my way to Spain! Well I was prepared for that. I packed my surface (the best portable machine for writing) in my flight bag. I can start my review of the manuscript while I am in Spain. Crossing my fingers and hoping that there are no further corrections necessary. But if there are, we’ll get them made. For your first publication it would be nice to be as close to perfect as possible. 😀
